Best places to visit in Jodhpur, Rajasthan - The blue city
ONE life. ONE world. Explore it.
Heyyy,
Travel opens my heart, broadens my mind and fills my life with stories to tell. In this blog I'm going to be writing about Jodhpur, Rajasthan. One major peculiarity of this place is that 90 percent of it's buildings are blue in colour and that's why the name blue city. If I get an opportunity to travel again anytime soon, then this would be the place. It's a really huge city where you get to try and learn so many new things. I would suggest you to never miss out on this incredible place. I visited Jodhpur in January, 2019. It was one beautiful experience for me and I'd love to visit Rajasthan again. December - January would be the perfect time to visit as the weather is very pleasant even during the day time.
If you're a frequent traveller then you'll definitely notice the uniqueness in their culture and tradition. Since I'm an architecture student I have a close look on the architecture style of buildings there as well.
This is one major reason which makes this city stand out from the others.
Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name, it was the capital of the kingdom known as Marwar. As soon as I arrived Jodhpur early in the morning, I had breakfast and left to Meherangarh fort.
Meherangarh fort is one of the most stunning hill forts of Rajasthan, Meherangarh appears to rise from the bluff-coloured sandstone hill itself, so well built into the base that it is difficult to tell where the hill ends and the walls begin.
The walls of this fort are at a height of about 118 ft and houses several palaces in it. It has seven entrance gates.
All the blue coloured houses of Jodhpur can be easily viewed from the top of this fort.
After the fort we visited Jaswant Thada which is just outside Meherangarh fort. It is basically a cluster of royal cenotaphs in white marble built in 1899 A.D. in memory of Maharaj Jaswant Singh II. Within the main cenotaph are the portraits of various Jodhpur rulers. I would really appreciate the stone work done in this building.
Next is the Umaid Bhawan palace. This palace is home of the royal family and currently the world's sixth largest private residence. It is situated on the highest point of Jodhpur. The property also houses a family museum. Only the museum and the exterior garden areas can be visited by the public while the other part of the palace is a hotel,.where you can experience luxury like the royals did.
The last place I visited was Mandore garden. Here there are the dewals or cenotaphs of Jodhpur's former ruler. The most impressive is the dewal of Maharaja Ajit Singh.
You can also try shopping here. You'll be seeing a lot of their unique traditional items from which you can purchase a few as well.
Please do visit Jodhpur and let me know what you loved about it too. The entire trip along with tickets, stay and other extra activities costed about Rupees 5000/- per person. It can also depend on the number of people you're travelling with or various other reasons. I stayed in this place called 'Hotel Chandra Inn', the service there was really good so you can surely check the place out.
Please do comment if you want to know anything more!
