Best places to visit in Udaipur, Rajasthan - The city of lakes
"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page" - Saint Augustine
Helloooo again,
Travel is the healthiest addiction, so no matter where you go, go with all your heart. One place that is really close to my heart and I really loved travelling to was Rajasthan, India and will always be.
The culture, tradition or the people - something really connects me with the place.
I traveled to a few places in Rajasthan and here I have written about Udaipur.
I visited Udaipur last year in the month of January. The weather during this season in Rajasthan is really beautiful as it is warm during the day and the temperature drops down suddenly late in the evening. If you live in India or if you're visiting India, I would recommend you to not miss visiting this beautiful state.
Udaipur is also known as the 'City of lakes'. It is also famous for its palaces. On the first day I visited City palace, Lake palace, Sahelion ki bari and Maharana Pratap memorial.
Udaipur's City palace is the largest royal complex in Rajasthan. Standing on a rocky promontory the palace has balconies, towers and cupolas and presents a wonderful view of the lake and the city. Lights during the night adds beauty to the palace.
This is a bath tub used in those days.
The Lake palace is an amazing confection of delicate columns, filigreed screens, cupolas and fountains. It has an amazing view from the city palace. It has now been converted into a 5 -star hotel and is running very successfully.
You can also go boating around the lake to have a closer look at this palace.
Sahelion ki bari is also called "The garden of the maid of honour". It was designed and laid out early in the 18th century as a retreat for ladies of the royal household to spend their time in leisure. One interesting fact about this place is the welcome fountain which rises up when a person claps and then again comes back to normal in a few seconds. There are four other fountains like this which has a unique story of it's own.
Maharana Pratap memorial has an impressive bronze statue of Maharana Pratap and his favorite and loyal horse, who was fiercely protective about his master and stood by him till his last breath. This memorial stands on top of Moti Magri (Pearl mount) overlooking Fateh Sagar lake. You can also go on camel rides around this lake.
There are a lot more interesting stories and facts about these palaces and gardens of Rajasthan. The experience is very surreal and I'm sure you guys will love it too.
The whole trip along with tickets, stay and other extra activities like rides costed about Rupees 5000/- per person. It would be a lot more cheaper while travelling with a group of people.
Please do comment if you would like to know anything more.
